To whom it may concern,

Our stories are power sites for understanding and building relationships. In the era of our current world, we need to understand how we arrived here because how we remember the past, defines our present, and molds our future. We are thousands of years of resistance from oppression, from the silencing power of domination. In recent times humanity has been tested with fissures in our global world. Words are tools that have shaped the world around us. We have become divided through the labels, borders, and walls we have built.

The HSU MultiCultural Center will present the 25th Annual Social Justice Summit on February 25 to March 2, 2018. Our vision for this year’s Social Justice Summit is to highlight tools for non-violent expressions. The theme ‘BREAK THAT WALL’ seeks to provide tools for effective advocacy, artful expression, and active ways to change the world through the words we use. The Summit will be a week of learning different forms of expression, practices, and creative outlets. For our students and our community with a Social Justice lens. Furthermore, it will be delivered with the same passion for social justice as in past years. Lastly, the Summit aspires to provide tools for both emotional and artful expression tools to shape voices for change.

We must resist the oppression that we face in our daily lives, throughout intersectional identities. No longer can any wall call keep us from living our lives as we should have always been able to live as living and breathing human beings. Together, let’s make this monumental and ever-lasting positive widespread change within our community, and soon globally.

We welcome you in commemoration for the community and a vision for the future. In order to fulfill our mission, we are asking for support from the community. We rely on the generosity of individuals and businesses for support. Without the assistance of community-minded individuals just like you, we would not be able to serve those in our community with events such as the 25th annual Social Justice Summit.

Thank you in advance for your support!
